El Charro was a long-time Lafayette, Ca. eatery for 73 years when it closed in December 2020.
Yet, this former favorite has just reappeared in the former Maria Maria site in Walnut Creek!
Since 1947, when Fidel "Frank" Garcia occupied the original log cabin on Mt. Diablo Boulevard, El Charro has been serving family-style Mexican food to satisfied customers.
As a kid, I loved the wall frescos, the endless baskets of chips and salsa and of course the famous blue cheese dip. My go-to was the huge cheese enchiladas, with copious amounts of Mexican rice and refried beans.
The newly opened El Charro will feature many of the same dishes, and margaritas (yes!), as the Lafayette restaurant. Let me know what you think after you visit the new location. El Charro 1470 N. Broadway
